Night time and Netflix. That's one combination we night owls look to for entertainment, right? After working all day, we want a bit of fun, a bit of non-work related task that we would enjoy, especially on those TGIF days. However, no matter how fun the night was, the morning must always come. This can be really quick when you have only caught 3-4 hours of sleep, waking up heavy-eyed, grumpy and asking yourself why you stayed up so late.
To make the best of your day, even the week, you have to make the most out of your morning. Herein, are tips on how to do that and the best part of it all is that you don't even have to wake up super early to get through them. Confused? Don't be, we'll tell you everything bit by bit.
1. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
We all know that grumpy, heavy-eyed feeling is because we feel we have not got enough sleep. To rectify this, get the recommended even hours single stretch of sleep.
You would have to find ways to make this happen. Be it cutting down on your night Netflix, or getting home early to get in that extra hour of sleep etc. whatever it is you need to do to your schedule to accommodate those seven hours has to be done if you want to start your mornings on the right foot.
A cup of your preferred java (coffee or take) would not be a bad idea.
2. Reconnect with yourself
Every morning is a fresh start. A start on re-motivating yourself. It is a new day with new possibilities. Of course, the issues or problems would not disappear but you get a new day to fix what you can fix and get closer to your goals. Mornings are definitely better to live in the moment. Some call it meditation while others call it awakening one's spiritual self. Call it whatever but the idea is to take it slow in the morning.
What you should avoid is starting the day in haste. Run out of bed, a quick brush, a quick bath, a quick this and a quick that, then a dash out the door. No, that is not the way.
Try to squeeze in the time to plan your day. This means you have to be organized and be a good time manager.
3. Practice gratitude
You might have read this particular point at least in 10 different blog posts. Trust me; it is actually as magical as it is claimed by all those blog posts (including this one). However, practicing gratitude is one habit you should imbibe. It is quite simple actually (plus it takes about 5 minutes each day). In a diary, write the things that you are grateful for.
It can be a person, a moment, or even a thing that helped you some way.
Really, it is simple. Once you get a hang of it, you'd see there are so many things to be happy about. As your morning and day progress, would put a spring in your step.
4. Listen or read to something uplifting
I would personally recommend an inspirational or a spiritual novel but you could read anything that motivates you. When you read something inspiring right after you wake up, it actually sticks with you throughout the day.
It is one of those morning rituals that help you steer clear of demotivate.
You can also listen instead. Maybe during your daily commute, using your earpiece or playing on your car radio. There is no shortage of inspiring material. You can even create your with Post-it notes that you place on your bedpost, your mirror and other places you would easily see them as you prepare for the day.
5. Get your errands done
This is so you can have more time in the evenings to do the gaming and Netflix that usually costs you your sleep during the week. Have a to-do list or make mental notes of what tasks have to be carried out and try to do them during the day so you can free up time at night. It really still just boils down to proper time management.
Pro Tips:
1. Take it slow. Follow this simple 4-step ritual for a week. Have no kind of cheat day.
2. Once you are done, write down benefits you have accrued from trying it out. See what you can tweak so it can be personalized.
It is important to start your morning right and it is also important to have the spare time to Netflix and chill, play the latest Assassins Creed or hang out with friends. To do this, you need to find a balance and give to each part of the day its own dues.
